Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will tutoring sessions be one-on-one or as a group?
Both individual and group options are available through our progam. Individual sessions are intended for families whose financial situation prevents them from accessing paid tutoring services. If you're unsure whether your situation qualifies for individual sessions, you're welcome to email us at a2tormail@gmail.com. Group sessions are for ALL students, whether you qualify for individual sessions or not.
  • How long will each tutoring session be?
Individual tutoring sessions are typically 30-45 minutes long, but may vary depending on the student. Group sessions are designed to take 40-60 minutes
  • What subjects will be offered?
In individual sessions, tutors are here to help your student with any subject! In addition, group options are available in math, reading, writing, and art. Homework help groups are offered as well, including one for native Spanish speakers. These groups are a way for students to drop in and get help with any subject, or ask any questions they may have about that subject.
  • How do I sign up to be a tutor or a student?
Head over to the "Join Us" tab at the top of this page, then click on either "Apply Now" if you're interested in tutoring or "Sign Up Now" if you're a student looking for some extra help.
  • What if I have a question that is not answered by this website?
We're available to answer any questions or concerns that you may have! Feel free to shoot us an email at a2tormail@gmail.com and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
  • What activities will be done to teach subjects in a fun and engaging way?
We make an effort to tailor each session to the individual student's needs. Depending on the age and preferences of said student, our program utilizes a combination of games, collaboration (e.g. tutor and student write a story together), and help with school work.
  • Will I be with the same tutor each time?
Students will work with the same tutor each time to ensure that each student is able to get the most out of their tutoring experience! In the case that the student or tutor feels that it is not a good fit, it's as simple as requesting a switch.
  • Can I become a student or tutor if I don't live in Ann Arbor or Ypsilanti?
Yes! Anyone in the area can become a student or apply to be a tutor. You don't have to live in Ann Arbor or Ypsi.
  • What video call program will be used for the tutoring sessions?
We will use whatever program works best for the student. Options include Zoom, Google Meet, Facetime, or simply phone audio if a student does not have video connection.
  • How are students and tutors paired?
Students and tutors are paired by taking into account our tutors' comfort levels with different grade levels and subjects, any preferences from the student, and the schedules of both the student and tutor.
